About CALM
Managing Cancer and Living Meaningfully (CALM) is a brief, semi-structured, evidence-based psychotherapeutic intervention developed by Dr Gary Rodin and Dr Sarah Hales at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. It helps people living with advanced and metastatic cancer, and those close to them, cope with the practical and profound challenges of advanced disease.
This year's workshop focuses on CALM-TF, a trauma-focused adaptation of the model. It speaks directly to the distress that many patients and families experience after a serious diagnosis and throughout advanced illness.
What you will learn
- The foundational principles and structure of CALM
- The rationale, theoretical basis and clinical use of CALM-TF
- How CALM is delivered in practice, through analysis of video-recorded sessions
- How to integrate CALM-TF methods into your own clinical setting
Who should attend
The workshop suits palliative care and oncology clinicians, psychologists, counsellors, social workers, nurses and other health professionals who support people with advanced cancer. It works both for those new to CALM and those who want to build trauma-focused skills.
