Greetings from the African Palliative Care Association! We hope you have been well.
We are inviting you as a member of the African Palliative Care Association to participate in the nomination of APCA Board members as required by the APCA constitution.
This process is important because the board is not only the overall governance body into which the APCA General Assembly vests its powers, it also contributes significantly to the work of the organisation through their skills, time, commitment to palliative care, resources as well as enlarging APCA’s network for sustainability and impact on patients across Africa.
The current board composition is 10, and 3 of these members will be stepping down after serving 2 terms of 3 years each. We therefore invite you to nominate any person of regional or international repute with the following skill sets currently needed on the APCA board.

This role requires an academic or professional in the field of health or related to health who will bring this expertise to the board. The individual would support the board with their experience in overseeing research activities as a way of developing the body of evidence for palliative care to develop the discipline and meet the needs of the population in Africa. Having worked in this field is mandatory and experience as a member of a national regional, or international level board is an advantage.

3. Government, international relations and policy: This person will bring the expertise of relating to and working with governments to ensure successful oversight of implementation of palliative care and related projects in African countries.
4. Business: This requires a person with experience in the for profit/ business sector to strengthen APCA’s secretariat in its interaction with big businesses. The purpose of this role is to tap into the Corporate Social Responsibility of companies and to serve as a liaison between APCA and its board and the interests of business entities, with the aim of integrating common interests into the work of APCA on the African continent and globally.
5. Leadership in Public Health/Global Health and Program Management/ Implementation: This role focuses on strengthening health systems through the design, implementation, and management of public and global health programs.
6. Organisational/Social Development: This role requires enhancing institutional effectiveness through organisational development, while promoting inclusive and sustainable social development at the community, national, regional and international levels.
The person nominated MUST have at least one of the skills listed above.
We are also looking at gender, language and regional representation
